Children and Youth

Children and Youth are very involved with the activities of the parish, from the very youngest children to those on the way to adulthood. For information on any of these opportunities, contact the church office at 703-323-5400 or officemanager@good-shepherd.net.

Family Fun Nights –

WHEN – Five Thursday nights beginning June 29th and ending on July 27th

WHY – In response to requests from our young families in both the church and our pre-school, we designed 5 evenings of fun and fellowship for families with elementary and pre-school aged children.  We want to include other families in the broader neighborhood as well.  There is no cost.  There is also no baby-sitting service.

WHAT – Each evening is divided into 2 parts – dinner and an activity.

Part I – Dinner – Everyone is invited to bring their dinner at 6 and eat at our picnic tables.  We will have our grill going if you want to cook hotdogs or burgers.  Or you can just come at 7:00 for the activity.

Part II – Family Activity

  • June 29th – BIKE RODEO – for anything on wheels from trikes and big wheels to mountain bikes and two-wheelers. Events and Prizes for all ages.
  • July 6th – MOVIE NIGHT – a child appropriate movie will be shown in the Parish Hall while the adults have a chance to talk over wine and cheese in our Atrium just outside the hall. We will have adult and teen supervision for the movie watchers.
  • July 13th – SCAVENGER HUNT – a hunt for families on the grounds and in the church with prizes for one and all
  • July 20th – SPORTS NIGHT – wear your favorite team gear and join us for all kinds of sports activities including many parent/child events
  • July 29th – CELEBRATE SUMMER – an evening starting at 6 with a church-sponsored cook-out for everyone followed by water games, a color run, and some old-fashioned events such as 3-legged races and sack races

I hope you will join us for as many nights as you can and that you will invite your friends and neighbors with young families to join us, too. Watch this space for new information each week.

HOW – Please volunteer to help with one (or more) of the evenings.  We have a chair for each night but need lots more help.  Call Claire at Good Shepherd at 703-323-5400 or contact Mary Helman at maryberghelman@gmail.com
