Once a month, a worship service is conducted for the severely mentally disabled residents at the nearby Northern Virginia Training Center. Many Good Shepherd families are involved in celebrating the birthdays of residents in Unit 3 with a bunch of birthday balloons.  Another ministry is providing Christmas presents for the residents of the unit as part of the Christmas Box collection.
