Every Thanksgiving Good Shepherd provides complete Thanksgiving dinners for the less fortunate in our community. Click here for the shopping list. Drop off the filled basket (see the list for more information) at the church on Monday, Nov. 21, between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Volunteers throughout the day are need to assemble the donations, and drivers are needed to deliver them. Contact Chris Camillo at 703-978-1705 or Vanessa Flory at 571-232-9802.
This ministry involves many participants throughout the parish. The youth conduct canned food drives, Sunday School children make special greeting cards to enclose with each basket, teens help with the heavy lifting of loading and unloading, and parishioners donate filled baskets of food for dinner and all the trimmings. On the Monday before Thanksgiving, a host of volunteers assembles, wraps, sorts, cleans up, and delivers the baskets. Last year 55 baskets went to Yorkville Cooperative housing in the City of Fairfax, and 88 were delivered to Jubilee House in the District. See the ministry in action in the photos below.
