FACETS - Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services
FACETS works locally to build strong families and safe communities by improving the quality of life for impoverished men, women, and children through programs addressing their physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. COGS parishioners are a strong part of this effort. Good Shepherd parishioners continued helping the poor and needy in our area though their good work with FACETS. COGS provides $4,000 in financial support to FACETS with $2,000 coming from the church budget and $2,000 from Outreach fundraising. Gail Calabrese has been the COGS contact person but now Richard Holcombe has stepped forward to serve in that role.
In May COGS parishioners are invited to the FACETS Benefit Breakfast, a networking and fundraising event at the conference center at Fair Oaks Mall. Everyone is invited to hear the story of FACETS from the mouths of the people served and to enjoy a wonderful breakfast. Watch for an invitation to attend on the LCD screens at church and on the blog.
FACETS held its annual “Taste of Fall” dinner and silent auction at the Sherwood Community Center, Fairfax, in October. The Outreach Committee donated for auction an Italian gift basket. This donation comes from Outreach fund raising. The silent auction is a fun affair, highly attended and provides a wealth of donations, raising in 2012 more than $73,000 and follow-up assistance for FACETS. This year COGS parishioners overflowed a table at the affair with 13 attendees. You are invited to attend next year!
