Text in Community
A book club that meets monthly for dinner and discussion

booksText in Community was started in 1990 to provide an opportunity for parishioners who like to read to come together in Christian fellowship, and to encourage spiritual growth through the reading of literature. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of the mon th for a potluck dinner followed by a discussion of a book recommended by participants.

The next meeting is Tuesday, May 14. Potluck supper starts at 6:30 p.m. followed by the discussion of Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo at 7:30.

Winner of the National Book Awards, this book is a vivid and moving account by Boo, who spent three years among the residents of the Annawadi slum, about those who struggle to subsist on meager means just outside Mumbai's International Airport. It is a telling tale of graft among all social strata and how so little can go so far. All are welcome to join the discussion.
