Each year the Stewardship
Committee conducts a pledge drive to raise funds for the
coming year to support the budget established by the
Finance Committee and approved by the Vestry.
Approximately 85% of the pledges and
offerings made by Good Shepherd are used to cover the
expenses associated with the church, such as staff
compensation, day-to-day operations, church maintenance
and debt service on the new building.
These gifts establish the foundation
upon which Good Shepherd is able to use the remaining
15% as "seed" money for all the missions and outreach
ministries supported by our parish.
Among the many ministries supported by
Good Shepherd are: ~ Music and Musical Programs ~ Youth
Education and Fellowship, including Sunday School ~
Pastoral care and spiritual growth, including the
Stephen Ministry, Lay Intercessor, Parish Retreats,
Bible study, numerous fellowship groups and other
educational and pastoral activities ~ Flowers, Altar
Guild, Interactive services, etc. ~ MOMS Group, and many
others
Another
important priority of Church of the Good Shepherd is our
commitment to reaching out to the community through
ministries like Camp
Hope,
Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional
Services (FACETS), English for Speakers of Other
Languages (ESOL), and the Diocese of Virginia to mention
just a few. Finally, we reach out to portions of the
world at-large through ministries supported through the
Parish and Diocese such as our international missions
for
Haiti
and Philippines
and the mission trip to El Salvador.
The "gifts" that grow and nurture the
seed money include not only monetary donations but also
the time and talent each member of the parish freely
offers in grateful appreciation for what God has
provided. This commitment also acknowledges each
individual's role in supporting God's work into all
areas of our church community and the
community-at-large.
