For Immediate Sympathetic Help, or
FISH, Good Shepherd teams cover one day about once every five weeks to help with immediate aid. Some examples would be people here whose electricity might be cut off because they can't pay their bill, don't have food to put on the table, or can't get to an important doctor's appointment because they don't have a car. A team is made up of a "Captain” who coordinates the help—this person works from his/her phone at home—and a Driver who delivers the necessary items or takes people where they need to go. The Captain fields the calls during the day at his/her home, and then coordinates aid. Each team works in half-day shifts. Both Captains and Drivers are needed and training is provided. The time commitment is not a big one, but the pay-off of helping neighbors in need is. FISH's clothing closet is open at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main Street in Fairfax. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday of each week from 9:30 AM to noon and the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 to noon. Donations may be delivered during those hours only. Please do not just drop items at the church. If you need to schedule a time other than the hours of operation, please call 703-620-0161 to arrange for delivery. FISH is accepting seasonal (fall and winter) clothing for men, women and children (all ages, all sizes), also blankets, sheets, pillowcases, towels and washcloths. There is no storage area at FPC, so we need to adhere to these guidelines.
