Boy Scouts

For over 25 years, Good Shepherd has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 1544.  During that time we have raised up over 40 Eagle Scouts.  We have sent groups of young men on backpacking treks to Philmont, on canoe trips to Maine and Canada, Scuba Diving in Florida, and numerous other challenging growth experiences. Three years ago, we spun off co-ed Venture Crew 1544.  Many members became certified in Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) program, and have helped run Emergency Response drills.  Venture Crew 1544 has also organized a number of SCUBA trips to the keys.  (… and had to be evacuated because of hurricane Charley last year.).  We are now in the process of helping to set up Cub Pack 1544, which will meet for the time being at Little Run Elementary School.  We have a Tiger Den leader, a great vivacious Cub Master, and 6 Tiger Cub Scouts. We are hoping to tap in to a fairly significant Hispanic enclave within Little Run and get them involved in the Cub Scout Pack.  Both the Venture Crew and the Troop have sponsored Christmas and Valentine parties at the Northern Virginia Training Center in addition to numerous other service and outreach activities, and have done mulch spreading and chair scrubbing for the pre-school on a number of occasions.  Good Shepherd can be gratified in the character and community building work that this ministry has been quietly accomplishing for many years.
